Determining Your Helmet Size
Overview
A properly fitted helmet is essential for safe riding. Follow the steps below to measure your head and select the correct size.
Step 1: Measure Your Head
To determine your helmet size:
Use a soft measuring tape.
Measure the circumference of your head starting at the center of your forehead.
Wrap the tape around your head approximately 0.6 in (1.5 cm) above your ears.
Make sure the tape is level and positioned around the widest part of your head.
Note your measurement in inches or centimeters.
(Tip: If you don’t have a measuring tape, use a piece of string and measure it against a ruler.)
Step 2: Find Your Size
Use your measurement to match with the sizing chart below.
Helmet Size | Inches (IN) | Centimeters (CM) |
|---|---|---|
Small / Medium | 21.26 – 22.83 in | 54 – 58 cm |
Large | 22.83 – 24.01 in | 58 – 61 cm |
Extra Large | 23.50 – 24.75 in | 60 – 63 cm |
Between Sizes?
If you’re between sizes, we recommend sizing up for a more comfortable fit. Helmets should feel snug but not tight. The helmet should sit level on your head and not tilt forward or backward.
FAQs
How should a helmet feel when it fits correctly?
A properly fitted helmet should feel snug all around, not tight or painful. It should sit level on your head, not move side to side, not slide forward or backward and stay in place when you shake your head.
Can helmets be shared between riders?
We recommend not sharing helmets. Helmets mold slightly to the original rider’s head shape and sharing can affect fit and hygiene.
Should I replace my helmet after a crash?
You should replace your helmet after a crash. Helmets are designed to absorb impact once. Even if there’s no visible damage, replace it.
Can I wear a beanie or cap under my helmet?
Thin layers may be worn in cold weather, but they can affect fit. Always ensure the helmet still sits level and secure.
