Paying with your HSA or FSA

Edited

Overview

Ridepanda has partnered with Flex so you can use your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to pay for an eligible bike with pre-tax dollars.

This article covers which bikes qualify, how checkout works, the documents you will receive, and answers to common questions.

Which bikes are eligible?

Flex works on bikes that are HSA/FSA eligible, which means pedal-powered bikes. Throttle-only vehicles, including scooters, are not eligible.

You will see the Flex option at checkout when you are subscribing to an eligible bike.

How does checkout work?

  1. Add your eligible bike to your cart and go to checkout.

  2. Select "Flex Pay with HSA/FSA" as your payment method.

  3. Answer a few background health questions in a short chat. This is a telehealth consult reviewed by a licensed provider, and it is how you receive your Letter of Medical Necessity, which is a note from a licensed provider confirming the item is needed for a medical reason.

  4. Enter your HSA or FSA debit card and complete checkout.

Good to know before you start

  • Flex is the only payment method on a Flex order. You cannot split payment across cards or add a backup card.

  • Flex covers the bike itself. Accessories and add-ons cannot be included on a Flex order.

  • If you already have an active Ridepanda subscription, you will need to cancel it before starting a Flex subscription.

  • If you are on a Flex subscription and want a different bike, you will need to cancel your current subscription first.

Where Flex is available?

Flex is not able to provide the telehealth consult or issue a Letter of Medical Necessity in Louisiana, New Mexico, or Mississippi. Because that letter is required to use HSA or FSA funds on a bike, Flex cannot be used for a purchase in those three states.

Where do I find my receipt and Letter of Medical Necessity?

After you buy, log in to the Flex portal at withflex.com/portal using the same email address you used at checkout. Your itemized receipt and Letter of Medical Necessity will be there, usually within a couple of hours of your purchase.

Keep your Letter of Medical Necessity on file for at least three years. Your HSA/FSA administrator may ask for it to confirm your purchase is eligible, and you will want it on hand if the IRS ever reviews your account.

What about returns, cancellations, and refunds?

Your Flex subscription follows our standard subscription terms, including our usual return, cancellation, and restocking fee policies.

If a refund is issued, it goes back to the card used for the purchase. If you paid with your HSA or FSA card, the funds return to that account.

Eligibility: Is my purchase reimbursable?

Whether a purchase is reimbursable depends on your specific plan. Employer-sponsored FSAs can set rules beyond IRS guidelines, so we recommend confirming with your HSA/FSA administrator before you buy. We are not able to offer tax advice.

FAQ's

Why am I being asked health questions?

To use HSA or FSA funds, the IRS requires a Letter of Medical Necessity, which is a note from a licensed provider confirming the item is needed for a medical reason. The short chat at checkout is a telehealth consult that a licensed provider reviews in order to issue that letter.

What if I do not have my HSA/FSA card handy?

You can still choose Flex at checkout and pay with a regular credit card. Afterward, log in to withflex.com/portal with the same email address you used at checkout, download your itemized receipt and Letter of Medical Necessity, and submit them to your administrator for reimbursement.

Why was my card declined?

HSA and FSA cards are debit cards, and the most common reason for a decline is insufficient funds. Check your balance with your HSA/FSA administrator. Flex also accepts only one card per order, so if a single account does not cover the full purchase, you can pay with a regular credit card and submit for reimbursement instead.

Where do I find my receipt and Letter of Medical Necessity?

Both are available in the Flex portal at withflex.com/portal. Log in with the same email address you used at checkout. If you do not see them there, email support@withflex.com and include the email address associated with your order.

What if my HSA/FSA claim is denied?

Employer-sponsored FSAs can set their own eligibility rules, which is why we recommend checking with your administrator before you buy. If you believe a claim was denied in error, reach out to our support team with the response from your provider and we will work with Flex on next steps.

Subscription Eligibility

Any Ridepanda subscriber can pay with Flex, as long as the bike is eligible.
