This article will walk you through how these programs work, where you can access them, and the options some employers provide as part of commuter benefits.

Please Note: Ridepanda does not run GRH or offer this program to customers. We are sharing this information so you can find and use your employer's or local program.

What is a Guaranteed Ride Home Program?

A Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) Program is a government-supported initiative that ensures commuters using sustainable transportation - such as biking, scootering, carpooling, or public transit can get home in case of an emergency. These programs provide peace of mind by offering a backup ride when unexpected situations arise, such as illness, family emergencies, or unscheduled overtime.

Depending on the program, commuters may either request reimbursement for rides taken via taxi, Uber, or Lyft, or be required to use a designated partner taxi service. Eligibility requirements, reimbursement/usage limits, service area coverage, and the sign-up process vary by state, county and employee programs.

How to Access Guaranteed Ride Home Programs in Your Area

If your employer offers a GRH program, start there. It’s usually the fastest and most generous option. If your employer doesn’t have a GRH program, use your local or regional program for your area instead.

Employer Guaranteed Ride Home Services

Some employers provide internal GRH services as part of their company-managed commuter benefits programs. These offerings are similar to government-sponsored GRH programs in that they include specific eligibility requirements, usage limitations, reimbursement policies, and defined service areas. Some examples are provided below:

  • Provides GRH services through the MyCommute portal, offering taxi rides via Lyft. For more details, visit the Guaranteed Ride Home page on the MyCommute portal or contact your commuter benefits administrator.

Google

  • Internal information can be found in the Tripshot app or by talking to your Transportation team

Open AI

  • Talk to your internal Open AI Transportation Team

Meta

  • Offers the Emergency Ride Home (ERH) program which supports employees commuting to Meta offices by shuttle, transit, vanpool, walking, or cycling. It covers up to $100 (excluding tip) for an Uber ride in the event of an emergency, with destinations such as your home, hospital, childcare/eldercare facility, park-and-ride, or other emergency locations. Each employee may use up to 8 rides per calendar year. For more assistance, visit the Meta People Portal or contact RIDE@meta.com with questions.

For employers not listed above, we recommend contacting your commuter benefits administrator to find out if your company offers a Guaranteed Ride Home program as part of its benefits.
