What to Do if Your Vehicle Is Stolen

Edited

Overview

If your vehicle is stolen, acting quickly improves the chance of recovery and helps with replacement. This article explains the steps to take immediately and how to report the theft.

Important to Note: Don't panic! Do not try to recover the vehicle yourself. Even if you spot it or find an online listing, avoid confrontation. Recovery attempts can escalate and become unsafe. Use police or building security and formal reporting channels instead.

For best results, complete the steps below the same day you notice your vehicle is missing. Acting quickly improves recovery odds and speeds up the theft recovery and insurance process.

Step 1: Confirm it’s stolen

  • Check nearby racks/areas and ask staff or security (if applicable) if it was moved.

  • Look for city or building impound or removal notices (if applicable).

Step 2: Document the theft

  • Take photos of:

    • Where it was locked.

    • Any broken/cut lock remnants.

  • Write down:

    • Exact address/cross streets.

    • Time window of theft.

Step 3: File a police report

  • Include serial number, photos, and distinguishing features.

  • Save the case/report number and a digital copy of the police report (required for insurance).

Step 4: Notify Ridepanda

  • Once you’ve documented the theft and filed a police report, reach out to us at support@ridepanda.com so we can begin the theft process on our end. Don't forget to send the information from Steps 2 and 3.

FAQs

Does Ridepanda provide insurance for stolen vehicles?

  • Ridepanda offers comprehensive theft insurance as part of your monthly subscription, with a deductible based on the vehicle’s MSRP. For more information, check out our Insurance Coverage article.

Do I need a police report to start the theft process with Ridepanda?

  • It’s strongly recommended and often required for insurance. If you can’t get it immediately, contact Support the same day and follow up as soon as you have the report number.

I can’t find the vehicle’s serial number. What should I do?

  • If you don't have your vehicle's serial number on hand, you can log into Ridepanda account to retrieve it (use the images below to help you navigate your account).

  • Still proceed with the steps and file the report with as many identifying details as possible (photos, make/model, color, unique accessories).

I found a listing that looks like my vehicle. What should I do?

  • Do not contact or meet the seller. Screenshot the listing (including photos, price, location, seller info) and share it with police and Ridepanda Support.

What if I recover the vehicle after reporting it stolen?

  • Notify police (if a report was filed) and email support@ridepanda.com right away so the case can be updated.
