Battery Care & Safety

Overview

Your battery powers every ride. A few simple habits help it last longer, go farther, and stay safe. This guide covers charging, storage, cleaning, travel, and what to do in an emergency.

Please Note: Never open, modify, or try to repair your battery pack. If something seems off, stop using it and reach out to us.

Charging Your Battery

  • Charge before your battery drops below 20%. Running it to empty puts extra strain on the cells.

  • Charge at room temperature, in a dry spot, in a room with a working smoke detector.

  • Stay nearby while it charges. If you need to leave, unplug it.

  • Unplug once it hits 100%. Don't charge overnight or leave it on the charger for long periods.

  • Only use the charger that came with your vehicle. The wrong charger can damage the battery or cause a fire. Need a new one? See Requesting Replacement Chargers.

Storing Your Battery

  • Keep your battery and vehicle somewhere dry, between 32°F and 68°F, and out of direct sunlight.

  • If you won't ride for a while, store the battery at about 30 to 60% charge.

  • Park in the shade or a cool spot when you can.

Cleaning Your Battery

  • Wipe it down with a damp cloth. Never spray or rinse it with water.

  • Clean the terminals every so often.

  • Remove the battery before washing the rest of your vehicle.

Getting the Most Range

  • Pedal more and use the throttle less.

  • Ride smoothly and avoid lots of stop-and-go.

  • Use lower assist modes when you can. Riding in the highest mode or on throttle every day wears the battery out faster.

  • Keep your tires inflated to the PSI printed on the tire.

  • Use your gears like you would on a regular bike.

  • Skip extra weight you don't need.

Smooth roads help your range. Hills and headwinds will lower it.

Traveling With Your Battery

  • Car: If your vehicle rides on an outside rack, remove the battery and keep it inside the car.

  • Plane: Ebike batteries aren't allowed on passenger flights.

  • Train: Many trains have bike areas. Check local rules before you go.

  • Bus: Check with your local transit agency about riding with an e-vehicle.

Battery Emergencies

If your battery starts smoking, makes unusual noises, or shows melted plastic:

  1. If it's safe, move the battery outside and away from anything flammable. Use a fire-resistant container if you have one.

  2. Call 911 right away.

  3. If you can't do either safely, leave the area immediately.

Lithium-ion battery fires spread quickly, release toxic smoke, and can't be put out like a normal fire. Don't try to fight one yourself. Damaged batteries are more likely to fail, so stop using a battery that's been dropped, cracked, or soaked, and contact us.

FAQs

How long will my battery last?

Most batteries last hundreds to over a thousand charge cycles. One cycle is a full 0 to 100% charge, so topping up from 75% to 100% counts as a quarter cycle. How you ride and charge makes a big difference.

Can I charge my battery overnight?

No. Unplug it once it's full, and never leave a charging battery unattended.

Can I use a different charger?

No. Only use the charger provided by Ridepanda. If yours is lost or broken, you can request a replacement.

My vehicle won't turn on. Is it the battery?

It might be. Start with the troubleshooting steps in Vehicle Won't Turn On.
