Winterize your Bike!
Overview
Winter accessories for bicycles are essential for safety, comfort, and performance during colder months. Use this guide to learn more about maintaining your vehicle in winter, along with recommendations for winter accessories.
Instructions
Battery Charging
Li-ion batteries tend to discharge more quickly in colder temperatures. If you're commuting to work on your e-bike during winter, you may find that you'll need to charge your battery more frequently compared to the warmer summer months.
Charge Your Battery Fully: Ensure your battery is fully charged before starting your commute.
Charge During Work Hours: Many of our e-bikes feature removable batteries, allowing you to charge them during work hours for a fully charged ride home.
Indoor Charging: Always charge your battery indoors and avoid charging it in temperatures below 32°F (0°C).
Maintain a 50% Charge: When your bike is not in use, keep the battery charged at around 50% to preserve its longevity.
E-Bike Thermal Covers: Consider using a thermal cover to protect your battery in colder weather. A recommended option is a E-Bike Battery Cover, which is reflective, waterproof, dust-proof, and designed for downtube batteries that should fit most of our e-bike models.
Store your battery indoors when not in use to keep it in optimal condition.
Winter Tires
Winter tires, especially when riding in snowy weather, can impact your battery range.
Equip your e-bike with thick, wide tires that have a deep tread to improve traction in snowy conditions. For a limited time, we’re offering free vehicle swaps during the winter season to help you transition to a bike better suited for harsh weather. We also provide tire upgrade options for enhanced safety. For recommended tires, please contact our customer support team for detailed options specific to your vehicle.
Be mindful that hydraulic brakes may perform differently in colder temperatures as the brake fluid thickens. Additionally, moisture and road salt can lead to corrosion. To protect your bike, use Muc-Off Bike Protect (500ml), a premium corrosion-inhibiting spray that works for all types of bikes.
Fenders
Fenders are a great way to avoid that unpleasant mud stripe during rainy or snowy weather! Our Ridepanda Hubs now offer free fenders upon request for all vehicles that don’t come with them already installed. For additional options, feel free to check out our Bike Racks and Fenders page for bike fender recommendations tailored to our vehicle models!
Lights
During the winter and rainy weather, visibility is key to staying safe. Without proper lights, you may struggle to see the road clearly and may not be as visible to cars and pedestrians, increasing the risk of accidents during your commute. Be sure to equip your bike with reliable lights to ensure you're seen and can navigate safely in these challenging conditions. Please refer to our Bike Lights page with recommended bike lights for your commute!
