Winterize your Bike!

Edited

Overview

Winter accessories for bicycles are essential for safety, comfort, and performance during colder months. Use this guide to learn more about maintaining your vehicle in winter, along with recommendations for winter accessories.

Instructions

Battery Charging

Li-ion batteries tend to discharge more quickly in colder temperatures. If you're commuting to work on your e-bike during winter, you may find that you'll need to charge your battery more frequently compared to the warmer summer months.

  1. Charge Your Battery Fully: Ensure your battery is fully charged before starting your commute.

  2. Charge During Work Hours: Many of our e-bikes feature removable batteries, allowing you to charge them during work hours for a fully charged ride home.

  3. Indoor Charging: Always charge your battery indoors and avoid charging it in temperatures below 32°F (0°C).

  4. Maintain a 50% Charge: When your bike is not in use, keep the battery charged at around 50% to preserve its longevity.

  5. E-Bike Thermal Covers: Consider using a thermal cover to protect your battery in colder weather. A recommended option is a E-Bike Battery Cover, which is reflective, waterproof, dust-proof, and designed for downtube batteries that should fit most of our e-bike models.

  6. Store your battery indoors when not in use to keep it in optimal condition.

Winter Tires

Winter tires, especially when riding in snowy weather, can impact your battery range.

  1. Equip your e-bike with thick, wide tires that have a deep tread to improve traction in snowy conditions. For a limited time, we’re offering free vehicle swaps during the winter season to help you transition to a bike better suited for harsh weather. We also provide tire upgrade options for enhanced safety. For recommended tires, please contact our customer support team for detailed options specific to your vehicle.

  2. Moisture and road salt can lead to corrosion. To protect your bike, use Muc-Off Bike Protect (500ml), a premium corrosion-inhibiting spray that works for all types of bikes.

Fenders

Fenders are an excellent way to prevent that unpleasant mud stripe from splashing onto you during rainy or snowy weather. To help keep your ride cleaner and more comfortable, our Ridepanda Hubs now offer fenders on a case-by-case basis, available upon request.

Not all vehicles qualify for fender installation, so be sure to check with our customer support team to see if your vehicle is eligible. With the right fenders, you can enjoy your ride in any weather without worrying about mud or water splashes.
For additional options, feel free to check out our Bike Racks and Fenders page for bike fender recommendations tailored to our vehicle models!

Lights

During winter and rainy weather, visibility is critical for safe riding. Proper front and rear lights/reflectors help you see the road clearly and ensure you’re visible to drivers and pedestrians.

Please note: All U.S. law requires cyclists in all states to use a white front light that is visible from a distance and a red rear reflector. Specific requirements vary by state, so be sure to review the regulations that apply in your area. Head to our Bike Lights page to find recommended front and rear bike lights for your ride.
